Sturminster Marshall First School

Grow, Achieve, Inspire, Nurture. SMFS where learning is an adventure.

Vision and Values

Our vision for Sturminster Marshall First School is a values-based school where children learn about positive human values like truth, happiness, equality and diversity. We have high aspirations for each child so that they are prepared for their lifelong learning.

We provide an engaging and stimulating environment so that all children can enjoy their learning whether that be in the classroom, outdoor learning or at playtimes with others.

We have a committed team of staff and governors who are always seeking to develop and grow to become the best that we can be for the good of the children.

As a small school, it is important for us to know each child as an individual and their strengths and needs and that they are happy. Sturminster Marshall First School is an inclusive school where everyone is valued, listened to and their contributions are celebrated.

As a village school, we are at the heart of the community, and it is our vision to work with the whole community to develop partnerships with parents and other organisations so that we can become an important hub of the village.

To us wellbeing is crucial to the development of our children’s mental health so they are taught skills that they will be able to use throughout their whole life.  By providing regular opportunities to learn about resilience, selfcare, relationships, self-worth as well as hope and optimism our vision is to provide children with the skills and opportunities to talk and develop these throughout their school years at Sturminster Marshall.

We are committed to:

  • Developing happy, confident children who thrive in small nurturing environment
  • Strive for high academic standards across the whole curriculum and provide every child to reach their potential
  • Equip every child for their next stage in their learning and future life by developing the whole child emotionally, physically, and socially.
  • Work together to include children, parents, staff, governors, Pre-School, School Society and the village community through activities in the school

To achieve these aims we:

  • Celebrate diversity, equality and culture
  • Care for each other
  • Encourage children to believe in themselves and achieve their best
  • Encourage a positive attitude towards behaviour and respect
  • Provide a stimulating and safe environment
  • Provide an engaging and challenging curriculum
  • Encourage our children to be resilient, persevere and independent.
