Great Fire of London and the 'Skittle Experiment'
Woodpeckers had a great time at our sports afternoon. They were lots of different activities for them to have a go at including the water race, an obstacle race, egg and spoon race, a sack race, and a throwing competition. The children worked in teams from children across the school. To end the afternoon, all children took part in a running race with the final event being the relay race with children from years 3 and 4.
They also had a great afternoon where they made houses from 1666.
This week Woodpeckers had fantastic fun GFOL day. They started off making bread and practised using their mathematical skills – reading scales. They all measured very well. Working as a team they collaborated to make the dough. Then they all enjoyed making different shapes with their dough.
After break, they designed a new memorial for the GFOL and made them using Lego bricks.
In the afternoon, we had a drama session where the children pretended that they were in virtual reality back in 1666 and had to escape the fire and complete three challenges. It was great fun.
The following day, once the bread was cooked the children looked at their bread and some sour dough and compared them.
Finally, for a fun activity, we also carried out the ‘Skittle experiment’. Woodpeckers had asked to do some experiments because they enjoy them so much. They were surprised what happened when the water was added to the skittles.
