Friday 28th January
We have been so busy in Robins Class this week!
In English we have been reading The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett which is all about a duck and his mysterious egg. We have written diary entries, descriptive noun phrases and even advice columns to help the poor duck who is very worried that his egg might not hatch.
In Maths we are still exploring addition and subtraction within 20 but have been focusing on our number bonds in particular. It is really important that we are fluent in these to make our maths easier so we have spent a few lesson just exploring these through pictures, word problems and abstract equations. It is essential to keep practising these at home so those number facts get stuck in our brains. A message was sent earlier in the week with lots of good links to games and songs that can help with this.
As part of our handwriting practice we have been writing the weekdays and this has been completely in cursive! Our writing is becoming so beautiful and this is seen in our English books too! If you would like to practice with us at home we use the Letter Join App which is tablet friendly - just ask the office for details.
In Geography, we have learnt all about the United Kingdom and are able to remember key facts about the 4 countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We have learnt about their Capital Cities, places of interest and even some legends about the history of the countries.
In Reading we have been discussing the significance of the title and main events of a story and making inference about a characters' feelings on the basis of what is being said and done in the book. Next week we will be focusing on reading common exception words and reading words with contractions such as I'm, I'll and we'll in line with our writing in English.
