Thursday 2 February 2023 Torches The children have worked so hard to make their torches using an electric circuit and a plastic water bottle as the body. I am very proud of them. Well done Kingfishers!

Saturday 28 January 2023 Fun around the fire! The children learnt about more suffixes this week in english (er and est) and continued with making different amounts of money in maths. Jackson Pollock was an artist who used different shades to create a 'mood' painting. The children enjoyed learning about different techniques and ideas in art.

Friday 20 January 2023 Shopping experience! The weeks just seem to be going so quickly. This week we have learnt about suffixes (ful, ment and ness) in english. Today our sweet and biscuit shop opened. The children had to find the correct coins to be able to purchase these! This week we learnt about a new artist called Paul Klee and Science involved making a clay sculpture.

Saturday 14 January 2023 Mud, mud, glorious mud! It is so wonderful to see children being children; feeling the texture of mud on their feet and in some cases being almost head to foot in mud, building dens and making clay monsters. Thank goodness for washing machines!

Saturday 7 January 2023 First week back! Happy New Year! The children were excited about sharing their news from the Christmas holidays and loved their presents from Father Christmas!This week they began the mornings with some mental maths; they will record their answers in their maths books. Spelling shed was introduced to them ( more details for you will follow soon). They were very motivated by the games to help them with this. They made bird feeders and nests in forest school and were really interested in the sounds different birds make.

Friday 9 December 2022 Blackbirds 9th December We have had a great week this week decorating our classroom, making Christmas cards and gifts and practicing our Nativity. We have been looking at different versions of the story of Cinderella and comparing what is different and the same. We have continued our measuring in maths and have been using cubes to measure different size magic wands (that we think belong to the Fairy Godmother).

Wednesday 7 December 2022 Christmas crafts! Monday started off the festive season with a visit from some reindeer. The children were fascinated with the animals and learnt about some of the similarities between the reindeer and cows! We have also been busy making Christmas cards, calendars and props for our Christmas play next week. Year 3 have been singing away rehearsing for their concert which was a great success on Thursday, despite a few nervous children. The cake bake was enjoyed by everyone; thank you to the school society for organising this.

Thursday 24 November 2022 Wet and Windy! Although this week has been a wet one, the children have continued to enjoy their learning inside and outside the classroom.

Friday 18 November 2022 How can we help the animals? In literacy the children have been in groups discussing the dreams of Polar Bear, Panda, Elephant and Orang-utan e.g. The Panda only eats bamboo and because of the destruction of its natural home it is harder for it to find the food it needs. What would a Panda dream of then

Thursday 17 November 2022 Robins help a mermaid in trouble! As part of our science this half term Robins class have been learning about materials.

Friday 11 November 2022 Fun in Goldfinches! This week Goldfinches drew a map of their route to school, focusing on the landmarks they saw on their way. Forest school was a very muddy experience but enjoyed by all. The children learnt the column method in maths and worked very hard with their addition and subtraction calculations.

Friday 11 November 2022 7th November 2022 This week in maths year 4 have been learning about using different strategies to solve problems while the year 3's have been learning how to add and subtract using the formal written method.

Friday 11 November 2022 Our route to school! The children drew their route to school and were very excited about all the houses and landmarks they saw on their way. Maths involved column addition and subtraction this week.

Friday 4 November 2022 Christmas decoration day! We have had another packed week in Kingfishers with lots of learning and fun!

Friday 4 November 2022 Fun at forest school Forest school was a great success this week; we made different types of fireworks using natural materials. We had a team quiz today; the children were very enthusiastic. We revised all the words we have learnt this week in english. There were a lot! These included nouns, verbs, adjectives, noun phrases, vowels and consonants. Well done children!

Wednesday 19 October 2022 Roman Visitor This week we had a Roman visitor to end our topic on Romans. He told us all about life in England before, during and after the Roman occupation. We learnt about Roman clothing, Roman houses and even got to see some real Roman artefacts! What an exciting day!

Tuesday 18 October 2022 Victorian Day Fun! This week started with our Victorian Day which saw the children enjoy activities from the past. Most children enjoyed having a ‘mean’ teacher and they all got into role brilliantly. Here are a few photos of the day. Another highlight has been learning about ‘Pop Art’ by Andy Warhol; using bright, unrealistic colours and repeated patterns.

Friday 14 October 2022 Another busy week in Goldfinches! 'Goldilocks' came to visit us and apologised for her behaviour. The children helped her write a sorry letter to The Three Bears. In maths they are developing an understanding of fact families, e.g 7= 4 + 3, 7-4 = 3. In art they drew some lovely portraits and used warm and cold colours to express emotion.

Friday 14 October 2022 Kingfishers This week Kingfishers have been busy publishing their leaflets to Varmints explaining the life-cycle of a plant and I have to say they look stunning! They have worked so hard and done such a fantastic job at their writing and drawings.

Thursday 13 October 2022 Robins go wild with weather! As part of our science topic based around seasons Robins class have become avid weather watchers!
