Ethos of School

Sturminster Marshall First is a happy, caring school set in the heart of the picturesque village of Sturminster Marshall.

This rural setting provides a playing field, garden and all weather surfaces which benefit the children all year around.

The children are very special and we try to ensure the best possible foundation for life long learning. We have five single classes - one for each year group led by a team of experienced, dedicated staff.

Because of the size our school we get to know every child personally and this enables the children to feel confident and then thrive.  The pupils are independent learners and achieve high standards.  Children are enthusiastic and look forward to the day ahead.  We strive to offer as many different experiences and opportunities to enhance the education and all round development of the children.

Links have been forged with the badminton and golf club, a range of sporting and musical opportunities are provided and community spirit is highlighted with the support of over thirty volunteers who come into school regularly.  The sporting programme includes swimming in our own pool from Year R – Year 4 and by the time the children leave the school they can virtually all swim.  Football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby and golf are just a selection of sports on offer.

"I am completely satisfied with all aspects of your school and find it hard to think of any adjustments."

"You are all doing a grand job."

Parents' comments

There is a range of music making and peripatetic teachers are sometimes employed.  All children in Year 3 and Year 4 have the opportunity to play the recorder.  Furthermore there are opportunities for all children to use their talents through concerts, assemblies, plays, inter and intra school tournaments.  This is important in developing the self confidence and self respect of the pupil.

Our ethos is focused on the individual child who is unique, with the aim of developing each pupil to aspire to reach their potential.
